St. Joseph's Hospital Ward Refresh, Newport
Contract Value: £1.3 Million
Main Contractor: F P Hurley
Client: St. Joseph's Hospital
Working directly for St Joseph’s Hospital, F P Hurley delivered an ambitious 16 bed ward refresh and nurses station refurbishment over a 16 week programme that included the Christmas and New Year 2022/2023 break. The project included mechanical and electrical services along with all building works to deliver first class amenities with many design features found in high-end hotels. Services were designed and installed with high levels of infection control as the focus point whilst improving the patient experience and facilitating first class care.
The team worked tirelessly from the 16th September 2022 to the 6th January 2023 to deliver the programme. Out of hours and weekend working were integral to the work to keep disruption to a minimum which included working through the Christmas and New Year 2022/2023 break. Close coordination with the client was fundamental to the success of the project, and to plan strategic closures so that they could maintain or access critical amenities.
Working safely and considerately around a constrained live hospital site was a key consideration. Working around an existing ward with patients required the F P Hurley team to be very adaptable. The project was delivered in blocks of 4 rooms at a time, meaning the team were working in rooms adjacent to patient occupied rooms. The privacy of patients was respected and our team worked safely and considerately at all times.
