Project Manager takes on 4X4X48 Run for Mental Health Charity
F P Hurley Project Manager, Tony Smith, has completed the gruelling 4X4X48 run in aid of charity, Mental Health Matters Wales. The endurance challenge involved completing a 4 mile run every 4 hours over a period of 48 hours. Starting at 8pm on a Friday evening and completing at around 4.30pm Sunday, Tony ran a total of 48 miles.
Tony, who has a long history of signing up for the most demanding challenges, only accepted the challenge two weeks before the event was due to take place. Previously he has completed challenges such as Trail Marathon Wales and has always kept himself fit and active.
Tony comments:
I knew the hardest thing would be the mental perseverance needed to complete the challenge. The lack of sleep was tough but you need to keep your mind strong so you don’t take the easy way out. I was determined to finish and managed to stay focused despite only having 5 hours sleep from start to finish. The last few runs were certainly very arduous but I kept thinking of the money raised and how it will make a real difference to Mental Health Matters Wales. I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved.
