F P Hurley to Deliver M&E Works on Cardiff Pharmaceutical Labs
F P Hurley has been selected by Cardiff & Vale University Health Board and construction partner Interserve to deliver the £4m M&E package at Genomics Partnership Wales’ new research centre in Cardiff.
Genomic Partnership Wales, a partnership formed to establish a united front against genomics in Wales, consists of several organisations such as Public Health Wales, Wales Gene Park, All Wales Medical Genetic Service, Cardiff & Vale University Health Board and the Welsh Government. Its purpose is to fast-track the development of pharmaceuticals in Wales, in line with the Welsh Government’s Genomics Strategy.
The contract, which was procured under the Welsh Government’s NHS Building for Wales National Framework, will see the remodelling of the Maynard Centre located on Forest Farm Industrial Estate in North Cardiff to create a leading medical research facility. First class facilities will be created, including treatment areas, genetic laboratories, containment level 2 laboratories, freezer rooms, seminar rooms and office space.
As M&E framework contractors, we are being engaged early on to ensure best value for money and we will be working collaboratively with Interserve, the Design Team and all stakeholders to deliver the £8.5 million project for Genomic Partnership Wales. We have a strong track record in the healthcare and research sectors, demonstrated by our performance on recent projects such as the Aberystwyth Innovation and Enterprise Centre for Aberystwyth University and our extensive works at Morriston Hospital in Swansea.
The project is currently in design stage with construction expected to start in late summer 2020 and M&E works to follow in Spring 2021.
