An ‘Unbeelievable’ Opportunity

As part of our commitment to enhance lives within the communities around us, we are excited to announce our involvement with Bee 1; an organisation established to address the decline in bees both locally and nationally.

The scheme, which is being driven by the company’s social value team, is known as Bee Friendly and is aimed at educating children on the importance of the world’s most important animals- bees. F P Hurley’s social value team is funding Cwmaber Primary School, Caerphilly, to take part in the educational scheme.

As part of Bee Friendly, the school will receive a host of resources and experiences:

• The school will adopt a bee-hive and will be able to monitor their bees through live streaming sessions with Bee 1.
• They will receive an ‘Eco-Pack’ containing wildflower meadow seedballs, bee bombs and bee and bug hotels to create a bee friendly habitat within their school.
• Bee 1’s beekeeper and F P Hurley will visit the school to talk to the children about the importance of bees.
• 12 months’ of bilingual curriculum resources, developed in conjunction with Cardiff University’s Pharmabees project.
• Bumblebee Trust Activity Packs and books.
• Banners, wall planners and an educational bee identification app.
• Honey from their adopted hive that the children can taste, jar and label.

BEE1 is delighted to be working with F P Hurley and will be presenting a school eco pack to Cwmaber Junior school in Abertridwr, Caerphilly. The school will receive curriculum resources, wildflower meadow seeds, bee bombs, a bee hotel, plus an adopted school beehive which will be looked after by ourselves on our farm in the South Wales valleys. The beehive will consist of c50,000 honey bees which in turn will pollinate approximately 200 million local plants and flowers.
