Education Project Finalist in LABC Awards
We were delighted to be a Finalist in the South West LABC Building Excellence Awards, which were announced digitally this year in September. F P Hurley was shortlisted in the Best Public Service or Education Building category for our work on the Chevally Building at Bridgwater College Academy (BCA) in Somerset. The project, which we delivered in partnership with BAM Construction, involved the construction of a three storey building to provide new dining facilities, a library, state of the art science classrooms, humanities classrooms and general teaching spaces. F P Hurley was appointed to design and install the mechanical building services for the project, which has expanded the Academy’s capacity to cater for 300 extra pupils.
The project was managed by Futures for Somerset, and represents one of a growing number of projects we have delivered for the organisation as we strengthen our educational portfolio in the South West region.
F P Hurley was appointed to lead the mechanical design from RIBA Stage 3 and focused sustainability and low carbon design. Simon Luff, Design Director comments:
“We maintained energy efficient principles throughout, providing neat design solutions with low carbon ventilation and eliminating cold draughts. We have delivered effective local controls where appropriate, providing the occupant with a high level of comfort. Being a Finalist in the Best Education Building Category recognises our industry leading performance in delivering exceptional learning environments, our commitment to sustainability and our ability to meet and exceed the client’s aspirations.”
