The Aberystwyth Innovation and Enterprise Campus, Aberystwyth University
Contract Value: £4.4 million
Main Contractor: Willmott Dixon
Client: Aberystwyth University
F P Hurley were awarded the contract for the mechanical building services for this prestigious new development at Aberystwyth University. The new campus will provide a range of high-tech facilities to researchers and new businesses within the food and drink, bio-processing and bio-refining sectors. The project involves the construction of several interconnected buildings, including several high-tech laboratories, modern and bright office spaces and meeting areas for companies who are committed to research and innovation.
Our internal design department is assisting with the design to BIM Level 2, helping achieve robust coordination and updating the model as the project progresses. Works commenced on-site in January 2019 and are set to complete in July 2020.
This builds on our previous experience in this type of project and our successful delivery of the award-winning Enterprise Zone Campus at the University of the West of England in 2017.
A standout feature of the project is the installation of the services within the laboratories. Other features of the installation include:
- LTHW Heating
- Mechanical Ventilation
- Dust Extraction
- VRF Air Conditioning
- Reverse Osmosis Water System
- Laboratory Gases
- Mains Cold Water and Hot Water System
- Laboratory-boosted Water and Hot Water System
Our scope of services also included a standalone cleanroom featuring:
- Pressure regime – the cleanroom must achieve a minimum pressure difference with the adjacent spaces of 30Pa (achieved by a 15Pa pressure drop between the cleanroom and the lobby and a 15Pa pressure drop between the lobby and circulation)
- Magnehelic gauge
- Traffic light warning system to indicate the status of the cleanroom
- AHU providing cooled, filtered air to the cleanroom
- Net outward airflow
- Pressure stabilising damper
- Transfer grille
- HEPA filters (H14 class) provided at air supply terminals
- Medical grade compressed air and Nitrogen gas
