John Frost School, Newport

Description :

F P Hurley were awarded the contract to provide the £2 million mechanical services for the transformation of existing Dyffryn High School in Newport, which underwent rebranding as part of the scheme and is now known as John Frost School.

The project saw the formation of a new Welsh school, which is Newport’s first Welsh language secondary school, and also a new teaching block for the English medium school. A particular feature of the project was the raising of all buildings 1.8m above ground level to protect from flooding.

F P Hurley were responsible for the installation of mechanical services for both the refurbishment and new build elements of the development, and careful phasing of the works was achieved to minimise disruption to the existing school.

The project involved extensive refurbishment of the existing teaching blocks, with adaptation and modification of existing services to provide state of the art facilities that will allow pupils to thrive.

The buildings were handed over to the client in spring 2018.
